The Effects of Technology in the Volleyball Coaching

By Harold Johnson

From the 2000 and on technology has become an important part of our life in several aspects and makes our life "easier", starting with communication and ways to find information with new smart phones, tablets or services in the web, and this new technology works with so many things that also have created tools that helps with the work of the coaches bringing some applications trying to make coaching more practical with a volleyball team.

Coaches used to have some kind of whiteboard where they write and draw the strategies, designate the moves of players according with the match preparation and use to give the instructions to the players, using a tablet with a application like this one you won't need to use anything else but the tablet, so is very interest you may give to this tool, you can move your players in the court in the board and draw with several colors to create the play you aim.

There are other kind of application where you can make stats of the games and the players and see pretty much how it's been the process of the players during the season, and basically use the info to plan the matches according with the abilities of the players, for example, see how many points or assistance a player have done and then you can see a table with the numbers and a couple of comparative graphics between your players to see the activity, mistakes and strengths of the team.

It could be very useful to make this stats but keep the information of your players for thinking not just for match but thinking in seasons, making a good statistic of the team can make difference in a future and see in numbers the base of what could be your team, for example, the stats can show you the players that have better performance in a specific skill like blocking or making more points that way you can take advantage of the abilities of your team.

Some people can say that technology is a distraction or the applications does not help at all, but these are just tips to help you take the biggest benefit you can have from your player's skills in court and put together a competitive team for any tournament, using devices does not mean to discard other methods either, but take what works for you and use it in your own work plan, methods and strategies, the idea is to have more "open mind" to new things so you can be more complete as a coach and even help improving what your players need.
